The art works in this gallery are made from natural Cotswold limestone and cast concrete. For sometime I have been interested in prehistoric rock art. Rock‚Äďart consists of carvings made by prehistoric man on rocks in the landscape, caves and some burial mounds. Spirals often occur in rock art designs. I have experimented with different carving techniques in order to better understand prehistoric art and the people who made it.

For me the act of carving a spiral is hypnotic. Perhaps the actual process of carving was as important as the end result. Whilst in a hypnotic trance like state the artist could have been imparting the stone with magical properties, creating a spell or even communicating with the ancestors.
